Heute um Mitternacht erreicht die zutreffende Einschätzung des Galliers Obelix einen neuen Höhepunkt.
Der kräftige Gallier stellte bereits in dem 1986 erschienenen Abenteuer unmissverständlich fest: „Die spinnen, die Briten!“
Eine völlig zutreffende Einschätzung, wie der heutige Brexit beweist.
Nach einem jahrelangen hin und her, wurde nun heute der vorläufige Schlusspunkt gesetzt. Großbritannien verlässt die EU offiziell.
Doch ist das noch nicht das Ende dieser Aneinanderreihung von Dummheit und Idiotie. Nun gibt es eine Übergangsfrist bis zum Ende dieses Jahres. Was danach passiert, steht noch nicht fest, ist aber entscheidend für den Fortbestand der EU.
Ich glaube, das ist nicht allen klar.
Viele, allen voran natürlich die Lobbyisten, wünschen sich große Zugeständnisse und ein Freihandelsabkommen mit Großbritannien.
Aber was wäre das für ein Signal?
Das würde diversen anderen nationalistischen Bestrebungen kräftig Wind in die Segel pusten.
Wozu soll man denn in der EU bleiben, wenn man danach noch dieselben Vorteile hat, aber nichts mehr dafür einzahlen muss?
Wenn man Großbritannien jetzt sehr viele Zugeständnisse macht, kann man im Prinzip auch gleich die Auflösung der EU beschließen.
Denn damit schafft man einen Präzedenzfall.
Es wird behauptet das vermeintlich die Mehrheit der Briten dafür gestimmt hat. Das ist so nicht korrekt. Die Mehrheit derjenigen die an der Wahl teilgenommen haben, haben sich wohl dafür entschieden. Doch das ist nicht die Mehrheit der Bevölkerung.
Das ist wohl einerseits dem etwas seltsamen Wahlsystem in Großbritannien zu schulden und andererseits der Dummheit großer Teile, derer die nicht gewählt haben.
Der Brexit ist ein Paradebeispiel dafür, wie gefährlich Populismus ist und was er anrichten kann.
Daher bleibt der EU eigentlich keine andere Wahl, als eine harte Linie zu fahren. Kein Zugang zum Binnenmarkt und hohe Zölle. Keinerlei Freizügigkeit. Der Brexit muss den Briten wirklich weh tun.
Alles andere würde zum Zerfall der EU in die alte Nationalstaatlichkeit führen.
Was die EU aber tun kann, Briten die die Insel verlassen möchten, unbürokratisch die Einbürgerung in ihr Wunsch EU-Land ermöglichen. Ebenso sollte es entsprechende Hilfen für Firmen geben, die ihren Sitz in die EU verlegen möchten. Weitere Hilfen sollten Schottland und Nordirland zuteil werden.
Schottland sollte unbedingt bei ihren Unabhängigkeitsbestrebungen unterstützt werden und bei einer vollzogenen Unabhängigkeit schnell und unbürokratisch wieder in die EU aufgenommen werden.
Im Falle von Nordirland wäre eine Wiedervereinigung mit dem Rest Irlands anzustreben. Voraussetzung wäre natürlich die endgültige Einstellung dieses schwachsinnigen jahrhundertealten Religionsstreites.
Auf jeden Fall muss den Briten klar werden, dass sie keinesfalls eine großartige Entscheidung für eine tolle Zukunft getroffen haben, sondern das der nationalistische Schwurbel von Boris Johnson und den Tories eher in dieses Szenario mündet:

The strong Gaul already stated unequivocally in the adventure published in 1986: "They are crazy, the British!"
A completely correct assessment, as the present day brexite proves.
After years of back and forth, today is the preliminary conclusion. Britain is officially leaving the EU.
But that is not the end of this string of stupidity and idiocy. There is now a transitional period until the end of this year. What happens after that is not yet certain, but it is crucial to the continued existence of the EU.
I do not think everyone is aware of this.
Many, first and foremost, of course, the lobbyists, want major concessions and a free trade agreement with Great Britain.
But what kind of signal would that send?
It would blow a strong wind in the sails of various other nationalist aspirations.
What is the point of staying in the EU if you can still enjoy the same benefits afterwards, but you do not have to pay anything more?
If you make a lot of concessions to Britain now, you might as well decide to dissolve the EU.
Because that would set a precedent.
It is said that the majority of the British people voted for it. That is not correct. The majority of those who took part in the election probably voted for it. But that is not the majority of the population.
This is probably due on the one hand to the somewhat strange electoral system in Britain and on the other hand to the stupidity of large sections of those who did not vote.
Brexite is a prime example of how dangerous populism is and what it can do.
So the EU really has no choice but to take a hard line. No access to the internal market and high customs duties. No freedom of movement. The brexite must really hurt the British.
Anything else would lead to the disintegration of the EU into the old nation state.
What the EU can do, however, is to make it possible for British people who wish to leave the island to be naturalised into their desired EU country without red tape. Similarly, there should be appropriate assistance for companies that want to move their headquarters to the EU. Further assistance should be given to Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Scotland should definitely be supported in its efforts to achieve independence and, once independence is achieved, should be readmitted to the EU quickly and without red tape.
In the case of Northern Ireland, reunification with the rest of Ireland should be sought. This would of course be conditional on the final cessation of this feeble-minded, centuries-old religious dispute.
In any case, the British must realise that they have by no means made a great decision for a great future, but that the nationalist whirl of Boris Johnson and the Tories is more likely to lead to this scenario:
